Chapter 1, Page 8
You (HARPER HOPPER) decide to chat with this newcomer you just met and see if you can formulate a plan to escape the mountain.
HARPER: …so, you’re looking to escape from here too?
LUMA: Of course! I never agreed to be here in the first place!
HARPER: I see. I’m sorry for assuming you were on the Guards’ side.
LUMA: It’s okay, and I suppose I should say the same. I could’ve sworn from the conversation I heard you having on that walkie-talkie that you wanted to keep people like me stranded on the mountain!
HARPER: Really? What makes you say that?
LUMA: Well, you said something along the lines of, “Good. No one can ever leave these mountains.”
HARPER: Oh, that? No, those were two separate thoughts! I was saying “Good” because I was relieved my friend had survived when he tried to escape, but then I was lamenting that his escape attempt failed and there may not be a way out for any of us.
LUMA: So, there are more of you who want to leave?
HARPER: Yes, there’s a few of us. But we all use codenames so that if the Guards catch us, they don’t know who our co-conspirators were. My friends go by Venetian and Warlock, and my codename is Tree Frog.
LUMA: I see. Ohh, because you really like reptiles or something? At least, that’s what I’m guessing based on your iguana-themed outfit.
HARPER: Yes, I love them! Tree frogs are actually amphibians though, but I love those too! Studying both groups is my career and my lifelong passion. Check out this cute little salamander I’ve been observing today! (*You hold up a small salamander.*)
LUMA: Aww, that’s adorable! By the way, is there anyone else on these mountains who likes reptiles — and I guess also amphibians — as much as you do?
HARPER: I doubt it! My friends have reported about their mountains, and although I’m not the only herpetologist here, it sounds like nobody’s nearly as passionate about the subject as me!
LUMA: That’s wonderful! But just curious, your codename is supposed to keep your identity a secret, right?
HARPER: Yes, how come?
LUMA: Well, isn’t yours kind of a dead giveaway?
HARPER: …oh shit you’re totally right! I wish I’d realized! Well, if you’re smart enough to deduce that, I suppose I should tell you my real name. I’m Harper, nice to meet you!
LUMA: Great to meet you! I’m Luma, but you can call me Lulu if you’d like! (*Although you’ve just met, from the way she speaks you can tell Luma already considers you a FRIEND.)
This is where things get complicated. We now have not one, but TWO protagonists in our story! But only one character can hold the role of MAIN CHARACTER (i.e. the character who YOU are) at a time! Who will YOU choose to be for now, and what will you do next?

Actually both characters will be the main characters of this story! It’ll just switch back and forth in terms of who’s the main character on a specific page. But your comment will make it more likely for Lulu to lead the story on the next page!
